Tarmo Rajasaari

Tarmo Rajasaari is a dual citizen of Finland and New Zealand. He originally trained as a mental health nurse and left Finland in 1995, working first in Sydney before moving to Thailand. In a small Khmer-speaking village near the Cambodian border he wrote a short story collection Vapour Trails – Tales from Rural Thailand (Orchidbooks.com). He supported himself by working in the rice fields and writing about rural Thai life for well-known inflight magazines such as Sawasdee (Thai Airways), Verve (Eva Air) and Blue Wings (Finnair).
After four years in north-eastern Thailand, Tarmo moved to New Zealand in 2001. He has written several current affair articles and newspaper columns for various publications, mainly in his native Finland but also in NZ, e.g. NZ Listener and The Press. Tarmo is fluent in Finnish, English and Thai. He draws inspiration from mountain hiking, competitive sports in veteran divisions, and music. He lives in Westport with his wife and two children. |
