The ToS Branch of the NZSA

About Us

We are the Top of the South Branch of the New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA). Membership is free and automatic to all members of the NZSA who live in the Top of the South - including Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman and Buller.

Our role is both to represent the NZSA in the Top of the South, and to support and encourage branch members in all genres of writing, to foster social and creative contacts and to offer information and advice on matters relevant to writing.

To this end, we:
  • produce a regular newsletter announcing upcoming events of interest to members,
  • organise and run the annual Te Tauihu short-story competition,
  • offer funding support to writing groups in the region,
  • organise and support occasional workshops and writing retreats,

We are run by a small and active committee of volunteers, As well as this website, we also run a Facebook page which hosts active discussion between members.

For more information about the branch, its committee, and its activities click on the buttons to the right.

About the NZSA

The New Zealand Society of Authors (NZSA) advises, supports and represents New Zealand writers of all genres and formats at all stages of their career.

It is a community for writers providing professional development programmes and services, information on the publishing industry, awards, fellowships, grants and other opportunities. It also advocates for writers, offers a members' consultancy service and fights for freedom of expression through our affiliation to International PEN. It thus offers:
  • Information services
  • Branches and hubs around the country
  • Professional development programmes
  • Advice and advocacy
  • Awards, grants, residencies and fellowships
  • Promotional opportunities

More information on the NZSA, on how to become a member, and on benefits of membership can be found on the NZSA website (click buttons to right)
