Christine Leunens is a novelist of Belgian and Italian origin, who has lived and travelled around Europe, North America, Africa and Asia before coming to New Zealand with her family, for all of whom Nelson is now home.
Christine’s novels Primordial Soup, Caging Skies and A Can of Sunshine have been translated in seventeen languages. She has received praise in the international press and A Can of Sunshine was selected as one of the ‘Best Books of the Year 2013’ by the NZ Herald. Caging Skies has been adapted by Desirée Gezenstvey to theatre and premiered at Wellington’s Circa Theatre in 2017, and was the major inspiration for Taika’s Waititi’s Oscar-winning film, Jojo Rabbit, in 2020. Christine has just finished a new novel, In Amber’s Wake, and written the screenplay adaptation, which has been taken for production. |
