After a career in universities in England, during which he wrote or edited twenty or more academic books and published over 100 research papers on geography and the environment, David Briggs moved to New Zealand in 2009. Since then, he has focused on creative writing.
The Direction of Our Fear, his first novel, was published by BMS Books in 2016 and recently republished under the Constellation imprint. By the Tracks We Leave was published in 2019. The Claim, published by RedDoor Press in 2019 was long-listed for the inaugural Michael Gifkins Prize for an unpublished novel in 2018 and short-listed for the NZ Booklovers Award. Zarrin, his fourth novel, was published by RedDoor Press in 2022, and The Day of the Red Balloon was published by Constellation in 2024. Several of David’s poems have also been published in anthologies and in 2015 he won a Silver Medal in the United Poets Laureate International open poetry contest. Reflections, a collection of poems, with photographs by internationally acclaimed photographer JF Robert, was published in 2021. David now lives in Mapua, with his wife, Ann, and two dogs. |
