Poet, essayist, storyteller and editor, Iona holds a Masters in Creative Writing (AUT). She is a committee member with NZSA Top of the South, and Southern Districts Representative with NZSA National Board.
Iona has served on several editorial boards, including The Coalition for Books, takahē and Flash Frontier. She is the founder of Elixir & Star Press an indie press dedicated to the expression of grief in Aotearoa New Zealand. Her work has been performed, anthologised and shortlisted internationally. In 2022, she was awarded the CLNZ/NZSA Writers' Award for A Counter of Moons, published with Steele Roberts Aotearoa in 2025. Iona's creative work includes poems spraypainted on fences, collaborative exhibitions with musicians and mixed-media artists, and performances at festivals locally and abroad. When she’s not writing you’ll probably find her in the garden. Iona lives in Reefton, on Aotearoa's southern West Coast. |
