Phil Garnock-Jones
Born in Liverpool, England, Phil has lived in Aotearoa since age five.
After studying botany at Wellington and Canterbury universities, he worked for the DSIR at Lincoln, then Professor of Botany at Victoria University. Specialising in weeds and hebes, his research is published in over 100 scientific papers and book chapters. Now retired to Nelson, he focuses on creative non-fiction and memoir. Phil is still conducting original research in flower biology and plant classification. With a love of photography, his forthcoming illustrated book for Auckland University Press describes and explains the flowers of 100 native New Zealand plants. |
