A New Zealand writer whose Irish mother brought a particular set of challenges. A nomad since childhood, she struggles still to find where she belongs and to understand who she is. She now divides her life and heart between New Zealand, England and Cyprus.
Shannon was nominated for the Pushcart Prize in 2020. She was the winner of the Fish Short Story Prize (2022), Cuirt New Writing Prize (2019), Reflex Fiction (2017), and Flash500 (2019). She has taken second place in the Henshaw Press Short Story Prize (2021) and Flash500 SS (2019); and been shortlisted in the Cuirt New Writing Prize (2021), The Bridport Prize (2021), Kilmore Literary Festival Write by the Sea (2021), Allingham Festival (2021), Bath Flash Fiction & Short Story (2020), Literary Taxidermy (2020), The Impress Novel Prize (2020), and Bray Literary Festival (2020). She was longlisted in the Sligo Cairde Short Story Award (2021), Flash500 (2021), and the Commonwealth Prize (2019/2020). 2023: Winner The West Trade Review Phyllis Grant Zellmer Prize for fiction.
