Suzanne grew up in Hawera, Taranaki. She attended Palmerston North Teacher's College then taught in Te Kuiti, Galatea, Portland, Haast and finally Collingwood in Golden Bay, where she still lives. She is the mother of two children and grandmother of four. In Golden Bay, she enjoyed parachuting, skydiving, and scuba diving. With her venturesome husband she farmed deer, searched for gold in the hills and pioneered a business growing oysters in deep water cages. She taught at the local school while adding to her teaching degree through distance learning.
Suzanne has written five novels (all adult fiction), and a children's picture book, all published through CopyPress. Āwhina's People, her first novel, was published in 2011 and explores Pre-European Māori culture. Mrs Lacy, published by CopyPress in 2013, provides an insight into human relationships – how difficult it can be to understand others and how easy to misjudge. His Father's Will, published in 2014, is based on the life of Suzanne's grandfather. Keep Your Head Up, My Girl, published in November 2016, is a historical novel which begins in Nelson in 1910. It is a gripping story of a strong- willed young woman carving a path for herself during a turbulent time in New Zealand’s history. |
Her most recent novel, published 2021) is Hōkioi: Giant of the Sky, a story about the giant eagle (aka Haast's eagle) which once inhabited Poilynesia and New Zealand.
Her children's book, Ram on the Roof (published 2019), is a picture book. with illustrations by Mke Howell.
